Things to do
Diving In The Maltese Islands
Malta has been known amongst diving enthusiasts for years. However in the past 5-10 years the amount of interest in diving has increased considerably, with many PADI Dive resorts springing up all over Malta and Gozo. The Maltese Islands are renowned for the numerous caves and wrecks available for divers, both recreational and technical. Wrecks include submarines, aeroplanes, destroyers, oil tankers and other vessels from the World Wars. Malta enjoys spectacular underwater topography and interesting marine life. The sea temp varies from approximately 15 C in the winter season to 28 C during the summer season, so diving is not only restricted to the summer months, moreover the visibility is spectacular when exceeding 50 metres.
With many of holiday-malta guests booking holiday apartments and hotels in Sliema and St Julians, we felt it opportune to recommend a dive centre in this area, not just any dive centre, but one where we know that experience, professionalism and respect for the sea is the name of their game, with this well in mind we would recommend a visit to the Watercolours Dive Centre which is situated at the Sliema Aquatics Sports Club (Sliema Pitch) along the Sliema Tower Road seafront.
Watercolours dive centre is a registered PADI dive resort and is run by Jason Fabri, a qualified PADI IDC staff Instructor together with Patrick Vella, a PADI instructor and marine biologist. These two locals have over 22 years experience each scuba diving around the Maltese archipelago. With over seven thousand dives and extensive experience in Scuba Diving around the Maltese Islands, Jason and Patrick are more than competent guides for all travellers wishing to experience the wonderful world of scuba diving in Malta. This PADI Dive Resort offers evrything from beginner courses up to instructor levels and accompanied dives from shore and by boat. They specialize in organizing diving holiday packages for groups of any size, diving clubs or the individual diver and they will take care of everything from start to finish. Watercolors are open 7 days a week all throughout the year and offer dives around all 3 major islands that make up this amazing archipelago.
