Shopping In Gozo

Being a small Island, shopping in Gozo is somewhat limited, with practically 3 shopping Malls all located in the Capital city of Victoria; The Duke, Tigrija Palazz and Arkadia. Both Arkadia and the Duke have food supermarkets on their lower floors, and are open Monday to Sunday during the summer months. International retail brands are also mainly found in these two malls, with a few other retail outlets now opening on the main road of Victoria. Parking in Victoria is limited and having a parking meter readily available in the car is highly recommended, as most parking spots in the capital city swarm with local wardens, who will issue parking fines to those who do not have a parking meter visible on the windscreen or who exceed the time allocated to occupy a parking spot. On the road betwen Victoria and Xaghra there is also a 1,000 square metre Lidl supermarket, which is probably the largest supermarket in Gozo and enjoys a sizeable car park which may accommodate up to 100 cars, open daily.

In the centre of Victoria, in Independence Square, which is further up from the police station, there is an open air market open which shares the square with a few bars and cafes. Open daily and selling numerous items from food and souvenirs, to sarongs and flip flops. This market is definately worth a visit as it still remains a place for the locals to socialise and for buying the daily necessities in and around the area. Other areas to visit for little souvenir and artisan shops besides the capital city of Victoria are Xlendi and Marsalforn.

For basic daily needs, practically every village will have at least one or two village stores within walking distance from all rented accommodation in Gozo, where one can find all the basic neccesseties including local bread, groceries and toiletries.
